In the late 60. s, an American named James Kaplan and a Frenchman, Gérard Courtin, a former pianist, came together to open a leather store on the very famous 5th Avenue in New York. They called it Jacomo, . Ja. for James, . co. for Courtin and . mo. to give the name a musical touch.
Be passionate about the arts and new realms, Gérard Courtin discovered a new passion for perfumery. He gave his full devotion to this field and excelled in this new endeavor. He imagined his first perfume with a bottle inspired from a sculpture of the Modern Art Museum of New York and a fragrance composed like a musical partition in languages ever so close. Eau Cendrée was his first creation for men, followed by its feminine counterpart, Chicane, sold solely in the Jacomo boutique in New York. A very cosmopolitan New York clientele came to ask for them, seeking them even outside the United States.
